There are two episodes of Soul Train that are absolutely PRICELESS. This
one with Al and the James Brown live performance.
“For the Good Times” is one of my favorite love ballads… it just splits
my heart in two.
Al Green could sing the phone book and he would be awesome. God has
blessed him with a tremendous gift. His facial expressions, the way he
controls the band and the way he interprets a song is priceless. Many have
become famous singers, but Al is a “sanger” and very few can come close.
Great video, that’s a performer.

Watching this is incredible I wish I was around at this time, this is when
artists had this thing called soul in their music, Al Green included, I
think we’ve lost that soul and passion in music today in my generation
especially in pop and R&B music, I miss it.
He surely made Kris Kristofferson proud with that rendition of that old Ray
Price hit, For the Good Times. Al had appreciation for other genres of
music and was great at putting his own touch to them on his cover versions.
Gotta love them old school soulful ballads. Nobody comes close to Al Green.
