It’s funny how David Bowie was rick rolling the crowd lol. To me that’s
what it looked like. I’m not trying to be mean. It’s just I feel he’s out
of place with everyone like dancing and moving and he’s just standing still
at times lol. David’s awesome. Now that’s swag
The best line about this album in the Wikipedia entry is: “During the
sessions Bowie was heavily dependent on drugs, especially cocaine, and
recalls almost nothing of the production.” Guitarists Earl Slick and Carlos
Alomar also confirm both their own cocaine use and foggy memories of the
sessions.
Which is pretty amazing, given that this is considered one of Bowie’s
greatest albums. A heady mix of cabaret, Crowley occultism, “Young
Americans” style funk, Kabbalah, Christianity, Nietzsche, and a hint of
krautrock, this album brings us Bowie’s new persona of the aristocratic and
impeccably-dressed Thin White Duke, and we get a glimpse of both where he
has been and where he’ll be going once the Berlin Trilogy begins.
“Golden Years” is probably the stand-out track on this album, not to
mention one of Bowie’s best singles. I love the title track as well, which
despite clocking in at ten minutes is not even long enough for me. “Stay”
is also fantastic, and “TVC-15” rocks along nicely. “Word on a Wing” and
the one cover, “Wild is the Wind” (a tune made popular by Johnny Mathis in
1957, but which Nina Simone recorded on the late ’60s and inspired Bowie to
take on the song) are a bit more melodramatic, which I’m not always nuts
about. Still, they’re wonderfully done, and Bowie’s vocals are incredible.
It’s sort of amazing to think that this album was recorded mostly in 1975.
There are so many moments that presage the “art rock” we’re going to see
once 1977 hits and the ’70s really start dying. Bowie is constantly ahead
of his time. I mean, in 1976, the rest of the world is listening to “Silly
Love Songs” by Wings or Elton John and Kikki Dee’s “Don’t Go Breakin’ My
Heart”.
Bonus: A drunk Bowie lip-syncs “Golden Years” on Soul Train (Bowie is one
of the few white artists to ever appear on the show)
David Bowie – Golden Years (Soul Train)
On this day in 1976 {March 18th} the movie ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’,
starring David Bowie, had its world premiere in London, England…
Two days later on May 28th, 1976 it had its U.S.A. premiere in New York
City…
At the time his record “Golden Years” was at #13 on Billboard’s Hot Top 100
chart; nine days later on March 27th, 1976 it peaked at #10 {for 2 weeks}
and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100…
Between 1972 and 1997 he had twenty-six Top 100 records; six made the Top
10 with two reaching #1, “Fame” for 1 week in 1975 and “Let’s Dance” for 1
week in 1983…
R.I.P. Don Corneius {1936 – 2012}…
Gotta love that he still has his red Ziggy Stardust hair color. And no, you
idiots, he isn’t lip-syncing; the audio and picture are just simply out of
sync. David Bowie doesn’t need to lip-sync.
Am I the only one who thinks the man is rolling hardcore while doing this
performance? I see everyone speculating what he was on, and we all know
Bowie did his fair share of experimentation back in the day.

Wow, listen to Stevie Wonder’s Superstition before listening to this song-
the melody sounds shockingly similar
I love David and love this song but this is the worst lip syncing. It’s
like watching an Asian film with the English not matching the mouth.
i think his lip-syncing is so bad because he was on a steady diet of
cocaine, milk, and red peppers.

Being able to transcend genres..check.
Being able to transcend cultural differences…check.
Being David Bowie and transcending icons before social media and not giving
a damn…You guys know the rest.
Can’t believe Elvis turned this song down !
that dude is perfect

Who is greater Bowie or god?
It’s a trick question, Bowie is god.

j’adore ce titre (et aussi tout l’album) qui fait très
“seventies”… “black is beautiful” !
Hasta los blanquitos tienen AFROS!
Don Cornelius actually made him do a retake. Apparently he was so high his
initial performance was terrible.

I haven’t seen anyone look as good as that on the streets of Britain for a
very long time.
Hahahhaha, he’s completely out of his head.

brviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii David Bowie. You’re so cool ~ <3 ~
:D:P
Coked out of his Gord but still wonderful.

Blatantly lip synched
The fact that he lip synched so poorly is really proof that he was a true
singer and didn’t have much practice lip synching.
i love you David xx
Happy Birthday David Bowie! Hard to pick a favorite, so I just went with
the first to pop in my head! He looks so young and thin here! :)
Bowie is far above ! Genial !
SAVE A LITTLE SOUL. oH, YEAH, WAH WAH WAH.
Sexy Voice!
Something for the weekend: David Bowie – Golden Years (Don’t let me hear
you say life’s taking you nowhere)
Am I the only one who thinks the man is rolling hardcore while doing this
performance? I see everyone speculating what he was on, and we all know

David Bowie on an episode of Soul Train is like Josh Groban singing at the
BET Awards.
His mouth looks like that of Mick Jagger
Sometimes he does the clap, clap, clap; sometimes he doesn’t, lol.
Stoned out of his mind though – and poor lip synching. I am such a fan,
but I know he’s not always perfect.
Proof that Cocaine is magic! Example, Bowie on… Soul Train…
If Buddy Holly and the Crickets can be at the Apollo in the “50s,then David
Bowie can be on Soul Train in the “70s.Always liked this song.
