For all you old school Soul Train fans, and tell me what you think:
Soul Train was way cooler when it was based in Chicago…like here in this
video. I felt it kind of lost something when Don “went Hollywood” on us and
took it to the west coast. There was blatant lip synching, unlike the old
show when most of the acts like James Brown did their acts live and the
dancers seemed to have been more soulful and close knit like a family. It
was better when the men and females danced together. That’s just my
opinion, family….but what do you think? I still liked and watched the
show; but the Chicago version is and will always be the REAL Soul Train to
me.
+dcflava74 This was in 1974. The reason I know that is because that’s Me
at 2:16 in all black with the white ruffled blouse. And this song was
released in 1974 as well.
Watching these Soul Train clips on YouTube makes me feel like I was born
way too late and missed out on a BIG 10-year party! My era pales in
comparison to the good times seen here. Great music and awesome dancing!
I was a sophomore in HS then. What an era. Silk shirts, angel flight pants
(if I remember correctly), high heeled shoes. The outfits back then were
incredible. Sure do miss those days dressin’ up….
+jerseyoldschool No we are not all in our 60s collecting Social Security.
Many of us are still dancing and working in the industry. We just had a
Soul Train Reunion Picnic today in Los Angeles. By the way, that’s Me at
2:16. And it was in 1974.
@gemini360 So true! Everyone was having fun! People don’t know how to dance
like this anymore…nowadays they are trying so hard to be sexy and
grind….yawn…..
Dancing was much more fun and creative back then. It wasnt about style
points, trying to look good and definitely not overly sexualized. The men
could move their bodies without the fear of the ridiculous labels they put
on each other today to be “hard”…lol The sisters looked like ladies proud
to be black and with class, not compromised for the hoochieness we see
now…..and thinner
You right but its all a blessing. I lived this period and was a junior in
high school in ’74. Twenty year olds were alittle different from the
current generation. We had our issues like most generations but were not
overly defined or obsessed with ghetto, prison and street culture. I’m not
collecting retirement yet but its around the corner…lol
All I gots ta say is dat da ho on da flo at :09-:13 need to get da funk off
da flo. Dis is 197fo, biotch. If y’ain’t here ta dance den get da funk out,

there. Look at the Wikipedia post for the release date of the song – 1974.
They weren’t still wearing platform shoes, bell bottoms, and flairs in ’78
and ’79. You need to interject a k between the d and c in your channel
name, and make it dkcflava74 because you Don’t Know Crap.
This was my favorite part of this show!!!
Sometimes, it would take me 2 hours to fold a load of laundry if I was
watching the Soul Train Line!!!
The Way They Dance Back Then Was Fun And Would Keep Any Body In Great
Shape, lol, , love the soul train line , thx for posting

Looks like legendary Soul Train dancer Lou “Ski” Carr. I believe it is but
not sure.
