Fashion then was what was current and a throwback to the 40s mixed in.
That’s what that lady with the matching jacket & skirt, white piping, was
wearing. And the high waisted pants were slimming and made you look tall,
especially with platform shoes.
People were slim because portions were small (as considered today) and we
ate to live, not lived to eat. Busy enough and you might skip a meal. Also
food was more natural & organic (what did we know?!) because things weren’t
done to them yet, corporations didn’t run our food industry–farmers did.
Watching these Soul Train clips on YouTube makes me feel like I was born
way too late and missed out on a BIG 10-year party! My era pales in
comparison to the good times seen here. Great music and awesome dancing!
+Tom Testy -actually the robot was an early 1970s dance, that was still
danced thru middle 1970s….if u look at Soul Train clips from the first
few yrs n California ull see dancers doin the robot…esp the dude they
called ROBOT AKA drunk man…(check out the DANCE CONTEST)
On this day in 1975 {February 15th} Rufus featuring Chaka Khan performed
“Once You Get Started” on the syndicated TV program ‘Soul Train’…
One week earlier on February 9th it entered Billboard’s Hot Top 100 chart
at position #79, and on April 6th it peaked at #10 {for 1 week} and spent
13 weeks on the Top 100…
It reached #4 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart and #14 in Canada…
Was track one of side one on the group’s third studio album, ‘Rufusized’,
and the album peaked at #2 on Billboard’s R&B Soul Albums chart and #7 on
Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart…
One other track from the album also made the Top 100; “Please Pardon Me
(You Remind Me of a Friend)” {reached #48, and on the R&B chart it peaked
at #6}…
R.I.P. Mr. Corneius {1936 – 2012}…
Loved it just loved it. This is what the mid 70’s were I was 28 back in 75
and me and my ex would dance are ass off to this song and music like it.
Glad I was a young man back than. Seeing how we would dance tells why the
young people were thin back than. Tell me do young people dance today?
They played this song on an episode of “Good Times”, but you couldn’t hear
it too well with the audience laughing at how the Evans’s were getting down.
That dance sequence they did (this song, this dance line) is one of the
truly best ever in the history of the show. They were among the very best
dance twosomes on the Soul Train show. Her windmilling arms and legs, and
then right at 2:30 (arms stretched out), that was just some waaaayyyy cool,
MEMORABLE moves!
i think sharing caused a rift in relations, some people became jelious
because freedom dancing was not something they wanted to witness they
wanted ballet, tap,the old soft shoe so once you get started like chaka
said it isnt as easy as the powers what you to think it is, we remember and
we know within side the ranks of those who say they cared there are liers
im glad someone saved these recordings its beautiful and all the things
youve written, but the reality is they want no one to be happy
I’m sorry, but I want Soul Train, or some kind of dance variety show like
this to come back!
MAN THE ROBOT COUPLE AT 2:16! AWESOME!
ALL the men danced like women then… DAMN !

Man, those were the days of great music/songs,singers, musicians, and
BANDS. And Rufus is so underrated, in my opinion, as a band…..
Wow they were slim. Probably ate at home most of the time.
Fuck i got Goosebumps.
They played this song on an episode of “Good Times”, but you couldn’t hear
it too well with the audience laughing at how the Evans’s were getting down.

I just learned that the lead Singer for Rufus was — Chaka Khan… I
thought I recognized her dynamite voice…. Thx for the memory & post
