Don-what’s happening gang?,you’re right on time for another ride on the big
train be coming right at cha’ with a hot one from Ashford & Simpson right
after these very important messages.
Soul Train television’s longest running syndicated music program and the
hippest trip in America 60 non-stop minutes across the tracks of your mind
into the exciting world of soul with guest stars Mtume,Shalamar and the
Soul Train dancers and now here’s your host Don Cornelius!
Sorry folks, but this is the best theme! I like O’bryan’s and MFSB TSOP’s
too, but this is the ONE!. Just smooth and funky at the same time. Just the
bassline alone, not to mention the smooth sax solo on the bridge. Just too
much!
“Hello and Welcome Aboard! You’re right on time for another ride on the Big
Train. We’ll be comin right back at ya with a biggie by Kleeer – right
after some very important messages.”
The Whispers were just some badd cats man, they had class dripping out of
their pores, damn this reminds me of Saturday’s back in the day, not a care
in the world, quality 80’s R&B from an equally quality R&B singing group…
@Gambeat1978. Was watching VH1 yesterday and they had the story of Soul
Train. Sent a brother down memory lane. I made a note to see of the old
theme songs were on here. Thanks for posting it.
This song always reminded me of a summer Saturday in the 80’s, at the park
for a cookout, this kind of music playing, everyone sporting jheri curls
and the latest fashion, people dancing, playing cards and/or dominoes,
signifying, mackin’, drinking some Schlitz Malt Liqour and
Champale—nothing goes good like Champale with bbq. I really miss those
days!
Hey Gambeat1978, you meant you’re A bass player right?……The bass player
on the track is Melvin Coleman of Vallejo,CA (also home of Confunkshun),
who happened to be my bass teacher in high school……
1am Saturday morning or 1pm Saturday afternoon you could count on black
folk to be in front of the set watchin Soul Train!
my favorite Soul Train theme song!!!
My favorite all time group. They sing the best romantic songs.
Bass from the center of the earth.
BACK WHEN MUSIC MADE SENSE.REAL INSTRUMENTS AND SHIT.
Thoughs were the days back then good times good memories
Who the bass player on this? Supreme!
When The Whispers came to Baltimore for the 70’s Soul Concert,They didn’t
sing “Up On Soul Train” oh well maybe next time.
That bass guitarist is Leon F. Sylvers III on this song.

The Whispers – Up on Soul Train
They still have the futuristic set in 1980, my favorite Soul Train set
before the damn Skyscapes set in late 1984.

“Soul Train, The Hippest Trip In America with guest stars Rick James, Teena
Marie, and the Soul Train Dancers. And now here’s your host Don Conelius.”
THE HIPPEST SONG IN AMERICA, THE SOULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
TRAIN!!!! MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!
Just one comment…..DOWN DOWN DOWN
One of the best Soul Train theme songs of all time.
The bass line is actually somebody playing a bass guitar. No fake bass
sounds that they use today.
